Luck Without Joy

20 year-old Enzo hasn't a chance in Italy. Trapped by history, he stands alone by his mother's fresh grave, taken by pneumonia in the poverty-trap village of Sinagra in Sicily. Rejected as a suitor, by his girlfriend's family for being so poor, he has little choice.
His father is cutting logs, halfway around the world in Western Australia. No one has heard from him for years. Enzo looks at his mother's photograph and recalls her last words, "go to Australia, find your father, make a life for yourself, here there is nothing for you."
On the ship, Enzo meets up, with 3 other young migrants and they form a lasting bond, and friendship. On reaching Australia and meeting his father, he realises that this is not the promised land he expected.
Enzo tragically loses his first wife, the love of his life, and though he becomes a successful businessman and Australian citizen, he is interned during WW11. He struggles on with the help of his proxy second wife, who was forced on him. Enzo helps many new immigrants settle in Western Australia. He becomes one of the richest, largest Italian landowners, and wine maker in the state.
When he passed away, ironically, everything was finally settled as he wanted.
